10 Times Doctor Who Well And Truly Crossed The Line

9. Blink's Final Moments

Yes, yes, yes - Blink is widely regarded as possibly the best story of the revival and even arguably of the entire run but that doesn't make it immune from this list! As written by the Moff - from a tale he penned for an annual - and directed with real panache by Hettie McDonald, Blink is top-class Who at its best. Moffat excels at taking the stuff of children's nightmares and putting them on the screen and that is something Who has always done. The Weeping Angels, statues that move towards you when you blink, are a truly horrifying concept and one that has made them the most popular new monster. However, there's a fine line between presenting a horrifying concept and then deliberately trying to terrify children with it. For 40 odd minutes, Blink gets the balance just right and then, for some reason, they get it totally wrong in the last minute. Having the section where David Tennant speaks to camera warning you not to blink while having a montage of different types of statues that will be impossible for children to avoid was simply gratuitous.
