10 Times Lazy Writing Ruined Netflix's You Season 2
1. The Third Season Is Set Up To Have The Same Plot... Again
As Season Two of You finally stumbled toward its closing scene, it once again revealed just how formulaic this show has already become.
Joe rounds of his monologue about how he’d imprisoned himself to a suburban life by twisting the sentiment toward yet another random love interest. We see him sit in a deck chair, peer through a hole in the fence at a woman who's sunbathing and reading a book, claim destiny had led him to her and sign off with, “See you soon, neighbour.”
Now, with such a focus on Joe’s relationship with his illusive mother throughout the season, many fans theorised that she was the mystery neighbour shown briefly here. However, Penn Badgley (who plays Joe) debunked this theory, telling Bustle during an interview that, “She’s definitely not his mom.”
Not only does this mean that we have another Season Two focal point that went nowhere, but we’re also being set up with yet another season following the exact same formula as the first two: Boy stalks girl, falls in love, it goes south, people die, boy elaborately frames a supporting character in order to escape.
Netflix have already confirmed that this proposal is good enough to warrant a third season.
Firefly only got one.
