10 Times Netflix Caused Major Viral Trends
6. Stranger Things & Enola Holmes - Millie Bobby Brown
When the Duffer Brothers came up with the idea for Stranger Things, they probably thought the 80s nostalgia would be the talking point, or maybe the fact that they managed to cast 80s icon Winona Ryder in a starring role. I doubt that in the middle of auditioning an 11-year-old English girl they thought: she’s going to take the world by storm.
Stranger Things was the first big hit for Netflix, the whole world was watching. And little Miss Millie was the one thing on everybody’s lips.
Celebrities were obsessing over her; former child stars of Harry Potter fame were clamouring for selfies. James Corden and Ellen DeGeneres were desperate for an interview and that blonde wig and pink vintage frill dress were all anybody was wearing for Halloween.
It cannot go without a mention that she is also the youngest ever producer for Netflix, and a successful one too! 2020 brought Millie to all new heights of fame with her starring role and Producer credit on the hit film Enola Holmes. Millie went from scene stealing ensemble cast member to leading lady, and the young star handled it effortlessly, proving her staying power once again.
I don’t know if I’d ever shave my head for a role, but I bet she’s sure glad she took that risk… it definitely paid off.
