10 Times The Walking Dead Went Too Far
1. Carl's Death
Killing off Carl was the biggest change from the comic storyline the show has ever seen, and apparently it surprised nobody more than the character's actor, Chandler Riggs. The writers on the show truly took it too far in both the real and fictional word.
From a storytelling point of view, killing off Carl in the middle of the war with Negan makes little sense. It just feels like another attempt at shock value to boost the ratings. Not only that, but Carl was the future of the show. So many key upcoming storylines, including Negan, the Whisperers and the Commonwealth all prominently feature Carl.
While The Walking Dead is Rick's story, Carl is the child of the apocalypse. Throughout everything he goes through, including killing his own mother and losing an eye, he continues to survive and push for a better world. To have Carl get bitten and die in the sewers of Alexandria is just hugely disrespectful to what the show is actually about.
What makes matters even worse is just a few months before Riggs was told of his character's fate, he was told that he should stick around in Georgia for at least three years due to the show. This was also two weeks before his 18th birthday! Simply put it AMC handled the entire situation terribly and it's not even really clear why they decided to do it.
At least we'll always have the comics.
