10 Times War Broke Out Within The Doctor Who Fandom

9. The Clara Show

The prestigious role of the Doctor's coveted companion has become one of the most sought after in British TV and over the last decade it's become as essential to the proceedings as the leading Time Lord himself. The most notable example is Rose Tyler who was fundamental in introducing the series to its new generation of fans. Billie Piper stepped aboard the TARDIS back in 2005 as the shop girl turned Earth Defender who had such an established backstory that she could've probably take on an entire spin off series of her very own. And she very nearly did. Back in the day, though, the companions were usually just there to ask all the important questions so Rose set a new trend which the show's subsequent sidekicks have seemingly taken a lesson from. The Doctor's best friends have stolen the show on countless occasions over recent years (arguably none more so than Amy Pond - more on her later!) but his current TARDIS co-resident has caused her fair share of controversy amongst the inner circles of the Doctor Who fandom. In fact, some have decided that the character of Clara Oswald is so overbearing that they've even started referring to the series as 'The Clara Show' and their qualms aren't exactly without good reason, either. Since her introduction in Asylum of the Daleks, Clara has dominated the drama with multiple deaths, introductions and generally establishing herself as a formidable force within the Doctor Who mythology. Whether or not that's a good thing, though, is the subject of an ongoing debate. The Series 7 finale, in which it was revealed that Clara jumped into the Doctor's timestream and imprinted herself throughout his life to save him, was the final straw for many and the revelation that "the impossible girl" has actually encountered all of his incarnations was a concept particularly difficult for certain circles to comprehend. There have been so many companions in the past so why did this one deserve such a prestigious accolade? It's a seemingly never-ending source of agitation amongst fans which wasn't helped when Clara literally took on the guise of the Doctor himself during the latest series which resulted in Jenna Coleman's face momentarily replacing Peter Capaldi's in the credits. For some, that was one step too far. For her fans, or 'Clara's Crusaders', as they're affectionately known, it just wasn't enough.
