10 TV Characters Finally Returning In 2022

3. Nadia Vulvokov - Russian Doll

Breaking Bad
Netflix

The Groundhog Day-esque 2019 Netflix series was a surprising hit, a self contained time looping comedy drama offering the immensely charismatic Natasha Lyonne a rare lead role as the spiralling Nadia Vulvokov, trapped in her 36th birthday party, dying and waking up in a bathroom as the world decayed around her.

The show dealt with questions of purpose and self worth, wrapped itself up nicely but not too neatly, and didn’t feel like something we’d see again. Now, in 2022, we are.

Provided they don’t do any damage to the legacy of the original, it’ll certainly be a blast to see Lyonne’s Vulvokov back on our screens. This was career best work from Lyonne (who co-created with Amy Poehler and Lesley Headland). She was at last given the opportunity to give her motormouth persona the room to breathe, drawing out the tragic interior life of a character who made every effort to portray herself as tough and above it all.

Giving the hugely talented creators the benefit of the doubt, one would hope they’ve brought the show back for a reason, and can find a new direction in which to take the story, the format, and the characters.
