With Better Call Saul coming to an end shortly, we’re finally going to see the moment all points of the Albuquerque extended universe collide. The real question at the heart of Vince Gilligan and Peter Gould’s prequel-cum-sequel is how sadsack attorney Jimmy McGill becomes slick amoral lawyer Saul Goodman becomes Cinnabon manager Gene Takavic.
For longtime fans, though, we’ve all been waiting for the moment a certain pair of methamphetamine producers enter Jimmy’s orbit. The social media team behind Saul have essentially confirmed that this will be happening in the final run of episodes; the fascinating aspect will be just what they make of it.
On other shows, you’d expect this to be a bit of fanservice, a brief cameo. But Better Call Saul has often acted as a true companion piece to Breaking Bad rather than a standalone show, expanding the roles of minor characters like Tuco and Hector Salamanca and even major parts like Mike Ehrmantraut.
There are factors like age and availability at play, of course, but it wouldn’t be surprising to see Walt and Jesse play a major role in Better Call Saul’s endgame, and we’d trust these writers to do it right.
