10 TV Characters You Never Expected To Be Killed Off
6. Nicholas Brody - Homeland
It's not unheard of for the main protagonist of a TV series to die. The likes of Walter White, Jax Teller, and Daenerys Targaryen all bit the dust, but these were in the final episode, right at the end of the story.
What is more unheard of is killing the main character off and then continuing with the show. You may have thought someone like Homeland's Nicholas Brody had some level of plot armour, but that went out the window in the shocking season three finale.
As a Marine Corps Sergeant converted terrorist with a suicide mission to kill the Vice President, death hung over Brody from the very beginning. However, through the twist and turns of the first three seasons of Homeland, Damian Lewis' character reversed his defection and began work as a triple agent for the CIA, eventually no longer contemplating his original mission.
The story grew to be about him clearing his own name after being framed for the terrorist attack that did ultimately kill the VP, but he was hanged before he was able to prove his innocence. It was a divisive move from the show to be sure, but no one can deny as a shocking series finale it worked, and Homeland was still able to continue with Clare Danes' Carrie Mathison shifted into the sole limelight.
