10 TV Characters You Never Expected To Be Killed Off

5. Henry & Sam - The Last Of Us

With its first season, The Last of Us showed that it was possible to adapt a damn good video game into a damn good TV show. Of course, Pedro Pascal's Joel Miller and Bella Ramsay's Ellie were the focal point of the nine-episode span, but they weren't alone.

Outside the supporting characters like Tommy and Tess, there were several that appeared in just one episode each. Nick Offerman and Murray Bartlett stole the show in the unbelievably beautiful third episode, but arguably one of the most shocking moments came in episode five, featuring Henry and his younger brother Sam.

The two were on the run themselves, and ended up forming something of a mini alliance with Joel and Ellie, with the two children in particular bonding over being scared of the only world they had ever known. Even though death looms over anyone in an infected apocalypse such as this, anyone who had never played the game couldn't have seen such a brutal death coming for poor, young Sam.

After being infected, the now mindless Sam attacked Ellie, forcing Henry to shoot his own brother in the head. There's no words that could possibly even attempt to convey what Henry went through, and upon Joel calmly trying to get the gun from him, the older brother turned it on himself and pulled the trigger. Harrowing.
