10 TV Episodes Where People Didn’t Get What They Wished For
5. The Witcher – ‘Bottled Appetites’ (S1 E5)
This episode shows Geralt attempting a wildly complicated solution to his insomnia by fishing for a Djinn in a lake so he can wish to fall asleep. Jaskier interrupts this and ends up needing urgent medical care from Yennefer after the Djinn attacks him when Geralt demands peace and quiet. Before the attack, Jaskier managed to make two wishes to have sex with a girl who rejected him and to kill his rival troubadour.
Yennefer only agrees to help Jaskier because she wants the Djinn to cure her infertility once Jaskier has made his third wish. However, the Djinn was actually bonded to Geralt instead, as he was the one who first grabbed the bottle.
Geralt had already used two of his wishes, firstly on Jaskier, then to explode the head of a guard who was torturing him. When he realises Yennefer is in danger from the Djinn, Geralt makes his final wish, which results in the Djinn leaving and Yennefer telling him he had 'condemned' himself to her. There are many theories about what he asked for, including that Yennefer would have his baby, in order to save her life and cure her infertility, but this has never been confirmed.
Geralt finally gets to sleep at the end of the episode, despite using his wishes to help others instead of himself.
