10 TV Episodes Where People Didn’t Get What They Wished For

4. Charmed – ‘Be Careful What You Witch For’ (S2 E22)

The Witcher - Bottled Appetites
The WB

In the first episode directed by Shannen Doherty, the sisters are visited by a Genie (excellently played by French Stewart), recruited by the Council of evil to trick them into making wishes so they are vulnerable to the attack of a Dragon Warlock who wants to steal their powers.

Despite refusing to make a wish, after advice from Leo, they are each tricked into expressing their hidden desires. This results in neighbour Dan becoming an old man, discovering the sisters’ secret and dying of old age after Piper wishes he would move on with his life.

Phoebe starts to uncontrollably fly after wishing to have an active power. Prue becomes a mortal 17-year-old in braces after wishing to have the passion of first love again, and in a dark premonition of future events, her lack of powers leads to her being killed by the Warlock.

The Genie eventually remorsefully tries to make amends and Prue is brought back to life when Phoebe wishes for her to be alive again. Dan is also revived and leaves town for good after talking to Piper and wishing that he didn’t know about magic. The episode shows that they were all better off dealing with their problems and not relying on magic solutions.
