Game of Thrones was filled with every mystery imaginable. What are the White Walkers? Who is the Night King? What is The Three-Eyed Raven? However, the biggest mystery was the identity of Jon Snow's parents. Though the character is presented as Ned Stark's bastard son, the most common theory was Jon is the child of Ned's sister, Lyanna Stark and Rhaegar Targaryen. This theory became so popular, it got nicknamed L + R = J. This theory was proven right when Jon's lineage was revealed in the final episode of the seventh season.

Since there are 87 bajillion fans of Game of Thrones (or at least there was at the time), it's not too hard to believe that a few fans correctly guessed the identity of Jon's parents.

But do you know who else figured it out? The show's creators, David Benioff and DB Weiss. When they asked the books' author, George RR Martin, if they could adapt his work into a series, he said he would only agree if they could tell him who Jon's mother was. They guessed correctly, which allowed them to adapt one of the greatest tv shows of all time.
