5. Tarrlokā€™s Betrayal - The Legend Of Korra

Game of Thrones
Nickelodeon

A sequel to the ultra-popular Avatar: The Last Airbender, The Legend of Korra follows the nominal successor to Avatar Aang as she attempts to maintain peace in a divided world.

The show's first season transports Korra to Republic City, where she must put a stop to a revolutionary group known as The Equalists. Her ally on the city council is Tarrlok, an ambitious waterbender, but their relationship goes sour when the councillor attacks the Avatar in his office.

It turns out that Tarrlok is actually the brother of the Equalists' leader, Amon. He has infiltrated the city's political offices and is attempting to rule from within. So, basically your standard politician then.

Tarrlok was shady from the get-go, so it came as no surprise when he stabbed the Avatar in the back. Figuratively that is - this is a kids' show.

His betrayal was still an effective twist and added an interesting new dimension to the story. It also resulted in one of the show's darkest moments when Tarrlok realises that his brother has gone too far and blows them both up.

Maybe this isn't a kids' show after all.
