Riverdale, the TV adaptation of the classic Archie comics, is a bizarre show full of illogical twists and turns and moments that are so outlandish it has viewers cringing. Yet the show has managed to maintain an audience for six seasons, and is due to conclude in 2023. Even if the scripts don't exactly bring out their best, Riverdale has a stellar cast of young actors. However, sometimes the show gets too off-the-wall and cringeworthy even for them.

Betty Cooper actor Lili Reinhart expressed her embarrassment of scenes in which she portrayed Betty's bad alter-ego "Dark Betty." This transformation between model student and webcam model necessitated a cliché "good girl gone bad" metamorphosis.

When Betty went from blonde girl next door to lacy lingerie goth, it was on the nose even for the campness that the show's fans love. Reinhart dismissed the scenes, telling Teen Vogue:

“I think it kind of became a mockery of itself […] It was supposed to be this dark side of her that she wasn’t able to express otherwise, and it just became this weird sexual thing that people didn’t really understand.”
