10 TV Shows That Killed Off Unhappy Actors
5. Adewale Akkinuoye-Agbaje - Lost
This one still really sucks. Lost is an iconic show full to the brim of characters and relationships and bizarre mysteries, but Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje's Mr Eko remains one of the series' most original and intriguing personalities.
Introduced in Season Two, Eko was a captivating character who Akinnuoye-Agbaje played with great power and relish. Instantly a fan favourite, it seemed as though Eko was destined for the success of a long arc and increased screen time. And, of course, popularity. But this didn't happen as expected, as Eko was killed by the infamous smoke monster in Season Three, and was never seen again.
Unlike most actors on this list, no feuds or clashes led up to Akinnuoye-Agbaje's departure. He didn't like living in Hawaii and wanted to return home. Despite show-runners Damon Lindelof and Carlton Cuse wanted to keep Eko around for a long, four season arc, Akinnuoye-Agbaje requested to be killed in Season Two and was reluctant to sign a long contract. Lindelof and Carlton kept him around for a bit longer, but eventually caved to the actor's demands and let Eko go.
His death may have been well executed, but fans weren't quite ready to say goodbye and his presence was missed from there. It would have been nice to see Mr Eko get his full storyline, and it's fun to consider where the show would have ended up had he stayed around, but we suppose we can settle with the knowledge that some of his arc went on to characters like John Locke and still made it to screen.
