10 TV Shows That Should Have Quit When They Were Ahead
7. Dexter
Dexter is basically the poster boy for having a terrible finale. It sits at an awful 4.7 on IMDb, just above Game Of Thrones’ at 4.3, ending on an equally sour note.
The final season overall was decent, even if it wound down and unraveled spectacularly at the end. While Game Of Thrones’ issue was being rushed though, Dexter’s biggest flaw was that it didn’t particularly resolve anything at all.
Considering Dexter was a serial killer, you’d figure that the show had to end either in tragedy or with him getting some kind of dark happily ever after. Instead, the final season tries very hard to give him a taped on redemption arc where he recovers his humanity and ceases his desire to kill.
However, the last episode sees him screw this all up in a ball and throw it in the trash.
He decides he is unable to protect his child so just sort of wanders off away from everything. By the way, what exactly is he protecting his child from now? From having a dad around?
Just ending it a season before and giving the real Dexter some closure would’ve been better. Instead, they try to ‘fix’ his character with no justification, then don’t even round off this arc with any logic.
