10 TV Shows That Should Have Quit When They Were Ahead
6. That ‘70s Show
That ‘70s Show actually has a pretty good finale which provides a healthy wrap up, some laughs, some tears, and fittingly falls on December 31st, 1979.
However, it doesn’t make up for the last season, which was average in places, terrible in others, and scribbled over character development seemingly for the sake of it.
In Season 7 of the eight season run, both Ashton Kutcher and Topher Grace leave the cast to further their career. Both did go on to success, but then so did Laura Prepon and Mila Kunis who stuck around.
With such a gaping hole in the gang, Josh Meyers was drafted in to play Randy. Rather than give him any sense of personality, the show just asks him to be both Eric and Kelso at once. To be blunt, he fails.
With Kelso gone, the show also neglects to give Jackie any growth, and instead she miraculously falls in love with Fez. Turns out she’s always been in love with him, even when she was clearly in love with Kelso.
The show was scheduled to end after Season 7 when Grace and Kutcher left, and it probably should have. At least it was never as bad as Days Like These or That ‘80s Show.
