10 TV Shows Which Completely Changed Their Premise
8. Sabrina The Teenage Witch
The self-explanatory title became redundant in the last couple of seasons of 1990s hit show Sabrina The Teenage Witch, since she was no longer a teenager. Buffy the Vampire Slayer made a similar transition from high school to college and beyond, but its contemporary is noticeable for almost completely revamping the supporting cast in the process.
Even Sabrina's aunts, who teach her about magic for six seasons, were written out of the final season, just like Sabrina's crush Harvey (for a while), her high school friends and other later love interests.
While Buffy was never dependent on the teen drama of its early years, Sabrina suffered outside the comfort zone of its first three seasons. The move from ABC to the WB did nothing to ease the change, and the tone of the show never matured with Sabrina's character.
