Since its creation many decades ago, the Addams Family franchise has spawned countless movies and TV shows - some animated, some live-action - and even though they haven't all been monster hits, this is a property that just keeps enduring.

Up next is a direct sequel to the 2019 animated film, but on the small-screen side of things, a spinoff centred on Wednesday Addams is currently in the works over at Netflix.

Simply titled "Wednesday", the live-action series is being billed as a coming-of-age comedy mixed with a supernatural mystery. Wednesday must deal with her newfound psychic powers, all the while navigating her life as a student at Nevermore Academy.

The premise alone is exciting enough, but the icing on the cake is that the one and only Tim Burton will make his TV directorial debut with the series, meaning that it should have that spooky, offbeat tone that Burton does so well.

It's unclear if Burton will helm all eight episodes, but with this mixture of a recognisable IP and big-name talent, Wednesday has all the makings of Netflix's next big TV hit.

Danny has been with WhatCulture for almost nine years, and is currently Doctor Who Editor and WhoCulture Channel Manager, overseeing all of WhatCulture's Whoniverse coverage. He has been writing and video editing for 10+ years, and first got a taste for content creation after making his own Doctor Who trailers and uploading them to YouTube (they're admittedly a bit rusty by today's standards). If you need someone to recite every Doctor Who episode in order or to tell you about the making of 1988's Remembrance of the Daleks, Danny is the person to ask.
