It feels like The Walking Dead has been on the air since the dawn of time, but at long last, AMC's smash-hit zombie series is set to conclude in 2022, with an expanded eleventh season that will consist of 24 episodes.

But even though the main show is coming to an end, the franchise itself is far from over.

As soon as The Walking Dead finishes its run, a spinoff centred on Daryl and Carol will begin airing in 2023, and Fear The Walking Dead - which was recently renewed for a seventh season - is set to continue as well.

Elsewhere, the teen-centric Walking Dead: World Beyond is gearing up for a second season, and even though that seems like too many shows already... there's even more to come.

Buried in a press release announcing the expanded eleventh season of The Walking Dead, AMC mentioned that they are developing an "episodic anthology" spinoff called Tales Of The Walking Dead, which will focus on "new or existing characters, backstories, or other stand-alone experiences."

Basically, expect this show to tell a wide variety of stories from different corners of the Walking Dead universe, switching things up week after week.

The press release also notes that AMC is working on "a number of other new and innovative projects" in the Walking Dead universe - so it's a very good time to be a fan of those pesky zombies.

Danny has been with WhatCulture for almost nine years, and is currently Doctor Who Editor and WhoCulture Channel Manager, overseeing all of WhatCulture's Whoniverse coverage. He has been writing and video editing for 10+ years, and first got a taste for content creation after making his own Doctor Who trailers and uploading them to YouTube (they're admittedly a bit rusty by today's standards). If you need someone to recite every Doctor Who episode in order or to tell you about the making of 1988's Remembrance of the Daleks, Danny is the person to ask.
