10 TV Villains You Didn't Realise Actually Won

1. Gillian Darmody - Boardwalk Empire

Joffrey Baratheon on the Iron Throne
HBO

HBO certainly like to throw a 'keeping it in the family vibe' into their programming. This time instead of a fantasy realm populated by dragons, our villain resides on a boardwalk full of drunks. Gillian Darmody gave fans of Boardwalk Empire quite a shock when the creepily close relationship between her and doting son James was revealed to have escalated substantially from kisses on the lips to grindin' with the hips.

Couple her incestuous leanings with a volatile, type-A personality as well as an all-consuming fear of being alone and you're dealing with one unhinged individual. Despite her often difficult lot in life, she proves to be a worthy adversary for Atlantic City's booze baron Enoch Thompson and is the catalyst for many of the problems he faces throughout a narrative full of intrigue, historical allusions and rum.

In the final season we are given some justification for how Gillian turns out the way she did and it is revealed that it was good ol' Nucky himself who pretty much sold her into child slavery in exchange for a better job title. Gillian may end up being institutionalised (probably for the best) but she certainly gets the last laugh - James' son, her beloved grandchild Tommy, rounds out the final episode by avenging his family's generations of misfortune and shooting Steve Buscemi right in his weird face.

Which other TV villains won in the end? Shout out any we missed down in the comments.
