10 Unintentionally Funny Moments In Game Of Thrones

Celebrity cameos are rarely a good idea. Typically, the only ones that don’t shatter the emersion of the viewer are those in which the celebrity appears for only a few seconds, preferably without any dialogue. Unfortunately, Sheeran’s celebrity cameo went down as one of the most ludicrous moments in Game of Thrones.

Dressing Sheeran in Lannister armour completely broke down the barriers between Westeros and the real world. No one experiencing this scene believed for a second that they were watching a group of Lannister soldiers. The showrunners even made Sheeran’s character sing, almost as if they were trying to make him as recognisable as possible.

Frustratingly, the scene wasn’t even necessary. After some painfully on-the-nose dialogue, the sole purpose of the moment was to challenge Arya’s generalised view of House Lannister. Given that this plot point had no overt relevancy later on in the show, it would have been wiser to simply remove it.

In fairness to Sheeran, his performance was far from terrible, but the decision to feature him in the first place was foolish, even if it did provide a good laugh.
