10 Most Unjust Cancellations In TV History

10. Firefly

Rsz 1rsz Firefly1 Beginning the list with one of the biggest disappointments is Firefly which was canceled before it could even finish airing its first season! Nathan Fillion led this space western which took place in a new star system in the year 2517. Firefly was far more than just a sci-fi show, however. The series was a drama that blended themes of multiculturalism, political turmoil, expansion, and the savagery of the human race. Firefly was - in the simplest of terms - damn good. No surprise there as it was created by none other than television God Joss Whedon. So why was the show given the axe in the first place? It was all because of poor ratings; isn't it always? Then president of the Fox network Gail Berman stated that though she loved the series it was quite expensive to produce and, unfortunately, the expenses outweighed the ratings at the time. Despite the low ratings the series managed to maintain an incredibly strong fanbase. A fanbase that was - of course - outraged upon cancellation after the eleventh episode. We had a reason to rejoice, however, as Whedon continued the story in his hit film Serenity which tied up loose ends and gave some much needed closure. The likelihood of Firefly returning to television is quite low. Having already been wrapped up on the big screen and with its biggest actor currently starring in another well-loved series there really is no way it could happen. We're content with this; however, it doesn't justify that the cancellation was incredibly unfair to the numerous fans or to those who helped make the show so great.
