9. Veronica Mars
Kristen Bell headlining a neo-noir murder mystery? Yes, please! To some Veronica Mars sounded like just another teen drama but to anyone who managed to actually tune in it was one of the best shows on the air. It followed title character Veronica Mars as she loses her best friend to murder and subsequently her popular student status as her father - the sheriff - is revoked of his status after making wild accusations. He then opens a private detective agency and Veronica joins him as an apprentice. The first season follows her investigations into the murder of her best friend and when that case is cracked she continues to become involved in intriguing tales of mystery. Unfortunately, the series was put on a hiatus during its third season and then abandoned altogether. While it managed to last longer than some other entries on this list three seasons surely wasn't satisfactory. So why the sudden decision to pull Veronica Mars from its time slot? Well, all signs once again point to ratings. Each season only managed to bring in around 2.5 million viewers a night leaving it at the bottom in the ratings pool. The show didn't receive the recognition it deserved and many argued that the Emmy's unfairly overlooked Kristen Bell's outstanding performances. Though the big mystery of the first season was solved the abrupt cancellation still left many fans dissatisfied. Rumours of a Veronica Mars film circulated since the cancellation but no fruit was ever borne. Fortunately, a Kickstarter for the project was both created and completely funded earlier this year meaning fans will get some closure come 2014.
