The First Day of the Rest of Your Life is an extremely poignant offering from The Walking Dead, detailing the slow death and reanimation of Sonequa Martin-Green's Sasha.

Previously, the series had done a fantastic job of showing the gradual, trippy death of Sasha's brother Tyreese in Season 5's excellent What Happened and What's Going On episode. By the time it was Sasha's time to kick the bucket during the finale of the show's seventh year, The Walking Dead again delivered something special.

Having been captured by Negan and his Saviours after trying to assassinate Jeffrey Dean Morgan's charming rogue, Sasha reluctantly agrees to join Negan's group of wrong 'uns. To test her loyalty to him, Negan decides to make his latest recruit a key part of his plan to attack Rick Grimes and the residents of Alexandria.

For Sasha, she comes up with a pretty genius way to get one over on Negan, but the trade-off to her scheme is that she will have to take her own life and go through the reanimation process. To do this, Sasha pops a Eugene-crafted cyanide pill shortly after being put in a casket for her trip to Alexandria, with this killing her and giving Negan a flesh-craving surprise when he later opens this coffin.
