10 Ways Game Of Thrones Has Been "Ruined" Before The Finale
9. Fan Service
Fan service is never inherently bad, in fact, some of this seasons best moments have been fan service. Cleganebowl was one of the few redeeming features of episode 5 and Brienne and Jamie's romance felt incredibly earned before it was completely undone mere moments later. However, this season suffers from the unique problem of simultaneously having too much of it and also not enough.
The main reason for this uniquely awful feeling is due to their inability to pull the trigger. While the romances between Arya and Gendry and Jaime and Brienne are fun but logical pieces of fan service, they are immediately spoiled by later actions, ultimately damaging the characters.
After all, Gendry would have felt like a far more deserving lord of Storm's End if he was not rejected by Arya. Jaime's return to Cersei meanwhile did make sense, but after spending so long emphasising the bond between Jaime and Brienne, it felt like a huge waste of time to give fans that fan service in the first place.
Other grievous instances of fan service were the return of Ghost who did nothing and barely even interacted with Jon, and Lady Mormont slaying the giant. While it was a fun moment, looking back, it was absolutely ludicrous and detracted from the power of the White Walkers.
