10 Worst Buffy The Vampire Slayer Villains

9. Machida And The Frat Boys (Season 2, Episode 5)

Buffy The Vampire Slayer
Mutant Enemy

Frustrated with her never-ending Slayer duties, Buffy lies to Giles and decides to go to a frat party after being invited by a local college boy. The party is a typical late-nineties affair with plenty of booze and alternative music.

But there’s also something sinister going on. After spiking the girls’ drinks, the frat boys chain them up and offer them as a sacrifice to a demon called Machida in exchange for wealth and status. Yet Machida turns out to be a pretty pathetic villain.

Whilst the makeup and the movements are good, there’s no personality here due to the absence of dialogue. Instead, the frat boys do all the talking, subjecting the prisoners to a series of monkish – and rather annoying – chants. Machida, meanwhile, conveniently hovers around the cave, giving Buffy plenty of time to break free from her bonds.

At this point, you’d expect there to be a banging fistfight between Buffy and Machida – but there isn’t. After grabbing a sword from one of the frat boys, Buffy cuts Machida in half, and that’s the end of him.

Despite a considerable amount of build-up, the frat boys’ master turns out to be an easy takedown for the Slayer.
