10 Worst Netflix Shows EVERYONE Should Avoid
3. Haters Back Off!
What works in a two minute YouTube video rarely works anywhere else, least of all a several hour long Netflix series.
It's not that Miranda Sings ISN'T talented, her original content had some real gems here and there. But that was a two minute format. Haters Back Off is... quite a lot longer per episode.
As a result, the comedy just feels lost more often than not. With jokes that either go on too long or nowhere near long enough to fill out a scene. And what definitely doesn't help is the fact that, while the persona that Sings adopts for her videos is funny enough for the very short time that we deal with her in her original videos, here she just comes off as unlikable.
Awkward humor can work, it can really REALLY work - just look to the more obscure and off the beaten path Monty Python stuff for proof of that. But it needs a sort of creativity in scenario and payoff for it to work that well, and Haters Back Off just doesn't have that. Leading to an unfunny mess not worth a moment of your time.
