10 Worst Simpsons Guest Stars (Who Played Themselves)
1. Katy Perry
The only reason Katy Perry’s guest appearance on the show isn’t widely remembered as the bona fide worst ever is because so many people have either forgotten it or swept it under the rug.
In a shameless act of self promotion/‘hey look we got Katy Perry’, the bit drags on with virtually no gags at all and just leaves us looking at Katy Perry and weird puppet versions of the cast. This is, apparently, supposed to pass for comedy.
Yes, it’s a reference to Perry’s Sesame Street bit being cut for her being overly sexy, and the tight latex dress references both that and fits her then trademark fashion choices. But it’s one joke, not done very well, dragged out, and months after the likes of Saturday Night Live did it much better.
It’s also a reference to A Muppet Christmas Carol, but unlike the Michael Caine movie it’s completely devoid of humour. Perry has her usual pretending to be ditzy, always on persona, and three solid minutes of her is way too much. Someone should have told her that even though it’s live action, she had to do more than stand there and look pretty.
