3. Lady Gaga
A lot of people probably expected Lady Gaga’s appearance to be top here, but that’s part of the reason why it’s not. Lisa Goes Gaga is such a legendarily bad episode that it’s terrible-ness has been way overhyped.
It’s still very, very bad, but there are a couple of celebrity appearances worse than Lady Gaga’s. Also, while she doesn’t bring her A Star Is Born a-game, a lot of the blame lies with the writers. Gaga’s been accused of phoning it in here, but even then she’s a more convincing character than a lot of their celebrity guests.
There’s just too much time dedicated to Gaga herself, especially for a season finale. The gag where Homer cooks and eats her meat dress is culturally relevant and a little funny, but her strangely eccentric train or kissing and exciting Marge just feel weird.
You can kind of see what they’re going for, but you shouldn’t have to squint this hard.
Her song ‘Lisa Simpson Superstar’ is actually pretty decent, but massively undercut by the depiction of Gaga as a Christ like figure. Lisa might have gone Gaga, but the fans certainly didn’t for this episode.
