10 WTF Moments From Japan's Most Insane Reality Show
10. The Contestant Was Picked At Random
On a cold Winter morning in January, an open casting call was put out for any comedians interested in working on a new show. A large group of hopeful actors and comedians showed up looking for what could be their big break working on a show they knew nothing about, only there would be no interviews or auditions that day. Instead of interviewing anyone who came in, everyone was told to take a raffle ticket. The person who pulled out the winning ticket was declared the winner and immediately blindfolded and placed into a van, much to the confusion of everyone else who had shown up that day, including Tomoaki Hamatsu (hereby known as Nasubi, the Japanese word for eggplant), the young and fresh faced man who had just won. Driven around blindly for hours in an effort to confuse him, Nasubi was finally brought to his destination, a small out of the way building with a living room, bathroom and kitchen area. It was at this point he was told to strip completely naked. Remember, he still had no idea who these people were, or what sort of show they wanted him to do. Confused, Nasubi proceeded to remove all of his clothes except for his boxers. He was told those too, would have to go. As he hesitantly pulled down his underwear, a large cartoon eggplant was used to cover his dangly bits. A joke, as the producers mentioned that Nasubi's face looked like an eggplant.
Any time I'm not writing, I'm likely arguing about children's cartoons with strangers on the internet or staring at my ceiling and wondering where it all went wrong.
