10 WTF Moments From Japan's Most Insane Reality Show
6. It All Aired Live (Without His Knowledge)
When Nasubi began his isolation, he had assumed that everything being filmed would be cut down after the fact to make a regular length television show. Technically he was right since the show's producers did eventually air a condensed version of everything that transpired, but what Nasubi didn't know was that the cameras in his room were hooked up to the internet and everything he did was being broadcast live for anyone interested in watching it like some strange version of the Truman Show. There were even people working behind the scenes to make sure the eggplant graphic covering his genitals stayed in place to avoid him flashing anyone on the broadcast. It added nothing to the show itself, but it allowed everyone to see Nasubi as he truly was, unaware anyone was even watching him. The choice to air Nasubi's life in real time ended up making for some great television later on, (more of that soon) but at the same time it caused some problems for production.
Any time I'm not writing, I'm likely arguing about children's cartoons with strangers on the internet or staring at my ceiling and wondering where it all went wrong.
