11 Doctor Who Rumours That Turned Out To Be Complete Twaddle

8. Keepin' It In The Family

In 2007 Joanna Page became a household name - and deservedly so, it has to be said - for her popular performance as the loveable Gwen Stacey in the hit BBC romantic comedy Gavin & Stacey. As such, it was only a matter of time before she was called upon to leave her mark on one of Britain's other best loved shows and that moment arrived in 2013 when she added a touch of royalty to the glittering cast ensemble of Doctor Who's spectacular 50th anniversary special. While her portrayal of Queen Elizabeth I was the actress' first official association with the series, she had previously been linked to a role which would've seen her crossing paths with the titular Time Lord long before The Day of the Doctor. Back in 2010 it was suggested - by the ever credible Daily Star - that Joanna had signed to play an undisclosed member of the Doctor's family (mother? Sister? Cousin? Illegitimate daughter?) and that her role would have the potential to become a recurring one after an initial two episode stint which would've been used to establish her character within the show's mythology. According to an insider she was destined to be the "new star of Doctor Who" and five years later she, and no doubt her agent, are still waiting for it to happen. She'll always be a star in her own right, though - albeit one that's less prominent in the skies of the Whoniverse as initially predicted.
