The Outer Limits debuted in 1963, four years after The Twilight Zone first appeared on screens. The Outer Limits was clearly much influenced by the earlier show, borrowing The Twilight Zone’s format wholesale. Each episode was a self-contained story but was more explicitly horror focused than the show which inspired it.

Acclaimed writer, Harlan Ellison wrote two episodes of the show’s original run: Soldier, and Demon with a Glass Hand - the latter considered by many to be the finest episode of the show.

The show returned to screens in 1995 and remained on air till 2002. These episodes do tend to be a little corny, but they have their own charms for anyone with an interest in horror and a nostalgia for ‘90s TV.

The best episode of the show’s ‘90s run is widely accepted to be The Zanti Misfits; an episode in which a spaceship filled with extra-terrestrial criminals crash lands on Earth.

Excitingly, rumours surfaced in 2019 of plans to revive The Outer Limits, and it’s hard to imagine it not enjoying similar success to the rebooted Twilight Zone if it gets the appropriate marketing.
