After the fall of the prison, Carol found herself travelling with Tyreese Williams, whose girlfriend she'd just killed, baby Judith, and sisters Lizzie and Mika Samuels. Unsure whether they wanted to head to Terminus, the group decided to stop off at a cabin and consider their options.

Whilst there, though, Carol had to come face-to-face with Lizzie's twisted psyche. Lizzie believed the walkers were her friends and refused to kill them. Carol and Tyreese tried to help her understand the ways of the world, and after a brief breakthrough, things seemed to be going well.

But, then, in a cruel twist, Lizzie killed her own sister in hopes of her coming back as a walker. She was also just about to kill Judith. Realising that Lizzie couldn't be saved, Carol took her away from the cabin, told her to "look at the flowers", and shot her in the back of the head whilst holding back tears. The show has done much more extravagant things, but nothing as dark and bleak as this.
