12 Small Details You Only Notice Rewatching Gilmore Girls
11. Carole King's Cameo
The Gilmore Girls theme song - Where You Lead - was originally written by Carole King in the early 1970s and part of her 1971 album Tapestry. It was re-recorded for the show and performed by King and her daughter Louise Goffin, very fittingly a mother-daughter duet for the show's opening credits. The song became a staple of what made Gilmore Girls such a sweet insight on the friendship and bond between Lorelai and Rory.
As a salute to Carole's musical contribution, the producers gave her a role as Sophie, the uptight owner of the Stars Hollow music store. Although a very cold, stern woman who won't let anyone touch the musical equipment before buying it, she eventually lets Lane practice playing the drums in private in her shop.
She can also be seen in the summer chapter of the A Year in the Life revival.
