13 Problems Only Game Of Thrones Fans Will Understand

7. Getting Way Too Into Crazy Fan-Theories

Game of Thrones and the book series A Song of Ice and Fire have been subject to enormous amounts of speculation and theorising. With the first book published in 1996, that's almost 20 years of theories that have built-up, and that has only escalated since the show began to air and the rise of the internet, especially sites such as Westeros.org and Reddit. The pages on such sites dedicated to fan-theories number in the thousands, and there's a number of them that you can really sink your teeth into and start to dissect. Some of these turned out to be completely rubbish (like when we thought Robb Stark would win), others are absolutely bonkers (Varys is a merman, Roose Bolton is a skin-stealing immortal), and a few actually make a lot of sense once you really dive into them, like the well-known R+L=J, or CleganeBowl (get hype!). You start to read them, and suddenly you're absorbed and find yourself refusing to believe that they cannot happen. It shows just how rich this world is, and how much of it and the inhabitants there is to be explored. It also shows the people on the internet have way too much time on their hands.
