Though Daenerys is clearly a strong woman, who has inevitably seen feminist principles pinned on her, there is something more complex to her, which comes all from Emilia Clarke's performance. Whether it's because of her porcelain doll-like good looks, or the soulful depth in her eyes, she has an inherent, almost intangible vulnerability, and perhaps even an innocence about her. That spirit made Clarke's on-screen relationship with hulking Khal Drogo all the more engaging, and she sold her dynamic with the warrior lord impeccably on her initial fragility and the strength that he gave her. That sort of thing is pretty much impossible to resist, especially given the fundamental appeal to every man's desire to think they're actually needed by women for protection from giant bugs or invading warrior armies. Because that's the sort of thing we all fantasise about these days.
2. She Wasn't Exactly Shy On Game Of Thrones
Though she has somewhat disappointingly (from a purely creative point of view... aherm) decided not to do any more nude scenes, Clarke's willingness to do almost full frontal scenes in the early days of Game Of Thrones was one of the show's less heralded selling points. Yes it's probably seedy to imagine thousands of hairy palmed fantasy fans drooling over the blonde bombshell, but the show-makers made a conscious decision to make nudity and sex as big a presence in the show as some of the main characters, and there's no ignoring the fact. And nor is there any sense trying to ignore the fact that Clarke looks remarkable with nothing on.
