13 Reasons Why Season 2 Review: 5 Ups And 7 Downs

3. Ghost Hannah

13 Reasons Why Hannah Clay
Netflix

As most of Hannah's storyline was wrapped up in Season 1, we were wondering how the character would feature in Season 2. After all, The show is about her. The civil trial allowed us a few more flashbacks to fill in some more of Hannah's story (even if some of it didn't gel with what we've previously been told), which was a good way to have her appear.

But bringing Hannah back as a ghost to haunt Clay was a step too far. It was contrived at best, and cheesy at worst, and served absolutely no purpose to the storyline. It was almost as if the writers wanted to keep Langford on the show in a regular role, so they came up with this to give her more to do. She's a truly wonderful actress, and one of the show's main draws, but Ghost Hannah was simply not a good idea.

Moreover, Ghost Hannah served as a sounding board for Clay, and his attempts to work out his problems by asking her for help came off as a little expositional.
