13 Reasons Why Season 4 Review: 7 Ups & 6 Downs

Ups...

7. Ani Is Used In A Much Better Capacity

13 Reasons Why Clay Ani
Netflix

Newcomer Ani found herself on the wrong end of much of the criticism last season when fans reacted negatively to virtually everything about her introduction. Not only was her relationship with Bryce Walker highly problematic, her excessive questioning and berating of virtually every beloved character on the show made her come off like a very annoying (and hypocritical given that she had her own secrets) character.

Thankfully, the writers make much better use of the character this time around. Not only does her reduced screen-time allow some of the more long-running and underappreciated characters to flourish, her time on our screens is (for the most part) used wisely.

Yes, her relationship with Clay does have its issues early on, but it's her friendship with Jessica Davis - which is expanded on to a much greater degree - that truly allows her to shine.

A character determined to support others played the supporting role to perfection here, and that ultimately allowed us to get to know her even better than before.
