13 Upcoming Netflix Original Shows To Be Excited About

4. Jessica Jones

The second Marvel/Netflix show to make it to our screens, set to air later this year, Jessica Jones stars Krysten Ritter (Jane in Breaking Bad) as the superhero-cum-private eye.

When she gives up being a superhero, suffering from PTSD, she opens up a private detective agency that deals primary with people who have special abilities. It promises to be slightly different to the other Marvel/Netflix shows, but still dark and gritty, and won€™t be shying away from any aspects of the character.

Ritter has already shown herself to be a capable actress, and the prospect of her headlining this series is enough reason for excitement, as she should bring a mix of vulnerability and toughness to the character. There€™s also the fact that Mike Colter will be showing up as Luke Cage, and even better David Tennant will have a recurring role as the primary antagonist.

Despite the huge amount of superhero movies and shows at the moment, there€™s a real lack of strong female characters in these worlds. Captain Marvel and Wonder Woman may be along to the big screen in a few years, but Jessica Jones has the chance to lead the way on TV, and it sounds as if it€™ll be more than up to the task.
