14 Doctor Who Companions That Need To Return

4. Romana

Both Mary Tamm and Lalla Ward portrayed delightful incarnations of the Time Lady, Romanadvoratrelundar (Romana for short) on TV. Lalla Ward went on to portray her Romana in various Big Finish audio stories and becoming Lord President of Gallifrey, reflecting developments with her character in the spin off books. Ward also played Romana in the webcast of Shada alongside Paul McGann. Since her departure from the TARDIS along with K-9 Mark II at the end of Warrior's Gate, Romana has had many, many adventures in various media, reflecting just how popular her character continues to be. From her audio stories as the "Mistress" in a "pocket universe" with K-9 to her novel appearances and later Gallifrey audio story adventures, Romana's life has never been dull. Big Finish has even introduced a future incarnation of Romana (voiced by Juliet Landau), much as the books did during the Eighth Doctor's run. If/when Gallifrey is ever restored in NuWho, a version of Romana could easily return along with it. Each of the actresses who has portrayed Romana brought a new and vital interpretation to the role and it's a role that certainly doesn't need to disappear any time soon.
