15 Best Netflix Originals Of 2020 So Far - Ranked
2. Sex Education Season 2
Sex Education returns for its second year and it is an improvement on the already very impressive first year. The trials of the kids remain at the forefront of the piece, with the adults getting a little more screen time this time around as well.
The first thing to highlight is that, finally, Eric gets a much smoother ride in this season. The first year seemed like a constant attempt to break him, whereas the second year seems to be intent on offering the young man some well-deserved positivity.
Otis is now officially going out with Ola, though of course still holds a candle for Maeve. She manages to return to the school, complicating matters, though ensuring that the clinic picks up again. This is threatened as Jean takes up residence as an advisor in the school, leading to a countdown as to when she will discover Otis's deeds.
The show, while at times slipping into absurdity, manages to hold on to, and build on, the heart that the first season offered. The characters, now established, are free to develop and for the audience to learn to love or loathe them in equal measures.
Although given very few spoken lines this season, one of the most surprising, and enjoyable, arcs is that of Adam - the bully-turned-military-cadet. Without spoiling the ending, his words, though used sparingly, are used to great effect.
One thing is absolutely certain from this season of Sex Education: you will never view Romeo + Juliet in the same way again.
