3. The Governor - The Walking Dead
AMCThe austere world presented in HBOs post-apocalyptic television series inspired by Robert Kirkmans even darker comic books is an unforgiving place at the best of times. Normal people who had led functional lives before the fall of mankind are forced to either cover themselves in Zombie-brains and guts on a daily basis or face being eaten themselves. We have seen people like Carol, Carl and Beth all transform from fairly normal people into efficient killing machines. These transformations are entirely forgivable though these characters have been put into an extremely compromising position where it is very much kill or be killed. If theres one character who cannot be excused it is The Governor, the shows primary antagonist in the third and fourth seasons who makes the Zombies which have overrun North America seem decidedly tame. The Governor has an insatiable appetite to monopolise the power in whichever community he settles in, using whatever means are necessary. The Governor is undeniably a great orator and has the power to bring anyone round to his way of thinking, though when this fails he has no qualms about resorting to violence. We first encounter him ruling the seemingly idyllic settlement of Woodbury with a tyrannical fist. It later becomes clear that he arms his community by organising the murder of other survivors to steal their weaponry and supplies. It is after the fall of Woodbury that we see the truly psychopathic qualities of the leader of Woodbury he ruthlessly slaughters 23 of his citizens after they refuse to attack the prison once more and shows absolutely no remorse.
