15 Greatest Episodes Of The Walking Dead

10. Still (Season 4, Episode 12)

The Walking Dead
AMC

The first half of season four sees the Prison destroyed and the Survivors scattered. This leads to a series of brilliant episodes, each centering on the various survivors of the Prison's fall. One of the very best of these adventures comes in the episode Still, which to date remains the show's most quiet and refreshing entry.

Featuring only Daryl and Beth (Emily Kinney), Still is the first episode of the show to star only non-comic book characters, and allows them both to shine away from the others.

Beth in particular gets multiple great moments. In the show since the second season, this is the first episode to really give her any deep characterisation, and though many fans aren't too keen on her as a whole, there's no denying how brilliant she was in this episode, and how sweet her friendship with Daryl was to watch.

As the pair head out to find some alcohol, both of them suppressing their emotions as they go, they end up drinking moonshine and slowly opening up to one another. Daryl tells stories about his late brother and admits the guilt he feels over The Governor's (David Morrissey) earlier attack, offering up one of Reedus' best performances.

It's a small, sweet episode, simple in its plot and execution, but remains a high point in a season bursting with great episodes.
