15 Most Exciting New TV Shows You Need To Watch This Fall

7. The Orville (Fox)

What Is It

You wait 12 years for a new Star Trek TV show, and then two come along at once. Seth MacFarlane's The Orville, a comedy-drama series set 400 years in the future, with the crew dealing with the dangers of outer space and the problems of everyday life.

Reasons To Be Excited

MacFarlane might be rather hit-and-miss, but he does have both an interesting comedic voice and strong geek sensibilities. We've seen him combine them in Star Wars parodies, and this looks like it could do something similar - albeit with much more drama - in a live-action setting for Star Trek. MacFarlane is the ship's CO, with ex-wife Adrianne Palicki as his First Officer. It'll be interesting to see how it works as a 40+ minute show, but the trailer is entertaining and MacFarlane and Palicki should be an effortlessly watchable duo.
