The many television miniseries adapted from the work of prolific horror author/ The Shining scribe Stephen King have always varied in quality.This year's recent The Outsider represents the stellar side of things, whilst horror helmer Mick Garris' The Shining re-do, scripted by King himself, is...Well, as said above, they're a mixed bag.

Luckily The Stand, a nineties miniseries which at the time set budget records for TV history, is one of the best onscreen distillations of the author's work. With an ensemble cast including Gary Sinise, Rob Lowe, and Molly Ringwald, this post-apocalyptic epic tells a story of good versus evil as expansive as it is emotionally engaging, and it's criminally underrated amongst genre TV fans.
