4. BoJack Horseman - I Wanna Be An Architect
BoJack Horseman is no stranger to emotional devastation. Learning about BoJack's mother's past could have made this list; so could seeing Caroline imagining she had a family, or seeing BoJack seeing the horses running on the beach.
But the saddest part of the entire show - and in many ways the most important plot point for the coming seasons - comes with the death of former child actress Sarah Lynn.
After a month long drug-fuelled bender, BoJack and Sarah Lynn decide to go to an observatory. As BoJack gives a speech about the future and the meaning of life, Sarah Lynn utters the words: "I wanna be an architect." BoJack then realises she's dead, having suffered an overdose on heroin. The screen cuts to black as BoJack repeats her name.
Killed by a drug named after BoJack, the whole situation serves as a frank reminder of just how destructive and careless the protagonist could be. And the fact that she dies looking to the future only makes it hurt more.
