What an amazing opening to a new series. It's been a popular trope in science fiction to have the wise old man guiding the younger character through crazy adventures, but if you think about it, isn't that relationship pretty creepy?

Rick and Morty is a show that fully understands that, and in this series the old man character is completely insane and a horrible influence on Morty. The very first scene of the series establishes this right away, with Rick barging into Morty's room in the middle of the night completely wasted. He drunk drives them through the air in his spaceship while rambling about dropping a bomb and destroying all of humanity.

It's the perfect opening that establishes the tone of this series right off the bat. This is a show that wonders, "What would Back to the Future look like if Doc Brown was a mentally unstable drunk?" From here on out, the series is going to play out the implications of that.
