16 Perfect Superhero TV Show Casting Choices That Nailed Their Characters

12. Lynda Carter - Wonder Woman (Wonder Woman)

Wonder Woman is, again, one of the most important DC shows of all time. Not only was it the first superhero show to feature a woman as the main lead, it also led to having a heavy impact on the character's source material. You know that iconic transformation spin? It wasn't a thing until the TV show.

Lynda Carter's role in bringing this all to life really can't be understated. She's one of the most iconic faces of DC Comics and gave a seminal performance as Diana Prince - one that would remain the only live action portrayal of the character for close to 40 years. Indeed, the series' role in further cementing Wonder Woman's iconic cultural status was undoubtedly massive, with Carter's turn as the Amazonian warrior doing a great deal to contribute to this renown.

Diana Prince has always been a character renowned as much for her strength as she has her warmer aspects. She's still an Amazonian warrior, as well as a feminist icon, but Wonder Woman has always been a warm and fundamentally idealistic character. It is this latter element that Carter really nailed, but that isn't to say that her rendition lacked punch - quite the opposite. It may have lacked the bombast of a million dollar budget or unfettered access to the endless CGI depths of Industrial Light & Magic, but it was still Wonder Woman. That fact is unmistakable.

Content Producer/Presenter

WhatCulture's very own resident movie guy, Ewan has been working in the content creation biz for over 10 years now, having started as a freelance contributor to WhatCulture Gaming all the way back in 2015. After graduating with a First-Class Honours in History from Northumbria University in 2017 (where he won a prize for a totally killer dissertation on the Watergate years), Ewan took on the role of Comics Editor at WhatCulture and quickly developed WhatCulture Comics into one of the biggest superhero-focused channels on YouTube. He followed this with a brief hiatus at Screen Rant in 2021, where he worked across the Gaming and Film sections as a writer and editor, before returning to WhatCulture as a Senior Content Producer / Presenter in 2023. He started his own podcast, We Love Dad Movies, in 2022, and has contributed several written pieces to the Eisner-nominated comics website Shelfdust as well. In his current role, Ewan incorporates his love of cinema, comic books, and history into written pieces and video essays for WhatCulture's Film & TV channel, as well as WhatCulture Gaming and WhatCulture Horror, with a particular focus on nineties-era Dad Movies, old school Westerns, and Golden Age Hollywood Noir. John Carpenter is his fave, and he thinks Batman Beyond should never have been cancelled. If that's your vibe, you'll probably like his stuff.
